Sydney World Pride 2023

A new project of mine, ‘Shimmer’, has been accepted into the Pride Amplified program as part of Sydney World Pride 2023!! This is fantastic news and I’m starting to build a body of portraits to showcase during Feb/March next year.

in 2023, Sydney World Pride is combining with the Sydney Mardi Gras and it will be epic, drawing over 1 million folks from queer corners around the world. Sydney World Pride 2023 want to showcase “compelling, bold and adventurous ideas that reflect the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community and encourage participation in LGBTQIA+ arts and cultural events… ” So, if they believe in my project, that’s what I will give them!

‘Shimmer’ will showcase the strength, courage, pride, resilience and celebration of LGBTIQ+  seniors and elders in NSW. It will be an exhibition of photographic portraits, along with subjects’ recorded stories (as a soundscape throughout the exhibition) and QR codes linking the images to the recorded stories.

‘Shimmer’ is innovative, visual and aural. It is a lived experience story telling project involving a broad selection of incredible community members. It will invite us all to reflect on who and where we are at right now, and who our future LGBTIQ+ selves could be. It incorporates photography, multi-media, storytelling, social justice, human rights, community participation and celebration. Right up my ally.

‘Shimmer’ will prioritise presenting images of First Nations Australians, transgender/gender diverse people, women, people who are differently abled, people from CALD backgrounds including asylum seekers, and rural/regional LGBTIQ+ seniors/elders.

The project is partnering with the Gender Centre, The Love Project at ACON, The Darlinghurst Business Partnership and Charring Cross Photo.
